African Jewish MusicAfrican and African American Jewish Music

An unforgettable evening of uplifting and eclectic songs is on the bill for a concert celebrating Jewish diversity and honoring Black History Month. Featuring the Abayudaya Jews of Uganda, nominated for a 2005 Grammy, and the Congregation Temple Beth’El Choir of Philadelphia, the concert will carry listeners on an unparalleled journey through the exciting and little-known world of African and African-American Jewish music. Also appearing will be Rabbi Baruch Yehuda, spiritual leader of an all-black synagogue in New York.

Rita is occasionally known by her married name of Kleinstein. Born in Iran, she immigrated with her family to Israel as a young child. She studied singing and acting and was perceived as someone with significant talent and potential. She released her first album in 1986 and almost instantly achieved great fame in the world of Israeli popular music. She has represented Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest, has performed extensively abroad, and has gained international acclaim. She is married to Israeli songwriter Rami Kleinstein who wrote and produced most of her songs.
