The Gevatron: Israel’s Kibbutz Folk Singers, from the Jezreel Valley to the Silicon Valley

Established in 1948 as an unpretentious choir of kibbutz members in the Valley of Jezreel, the Gevatron has gained and maintained, since the early 1960s, the status of Israel’s national singing ensemble. With a rich repertoire that includes Eretz Israeli original songs, favorite oldies, Russian ballads, Yemenite folk tunes and Yiddish songs in Hebrew translation, the Gevatron has never aged, and keeps gaining new members and fresh audiences. The troupe, whose members are local kibbutzniks, boasts enchanting melodies and sophisticated harmonies, and was awarded the prestigious Israel Prize in 2007. The troupe will launch its US tour in the Bay Area.
