Israeli Pages: A Year of Hebrew Literature

A special lecture series for Israel@60, featuring Israel’s finest literary voices, is presented by The Israel Center, The Taube Center for Jewish Studies at Stanford University, in collaboration with the JCC of San Francisco. It will take place from September ‘07 to April ‘08 at Stanford, JCCSF and UC Berkeley.
Other authors partcipating in the series: Sami Michael, Michal Govrin, Meir Shalev, Sayed Kashua, Agi Mishol, Aharon Megged, A.B. Yehoshua.

The Muslim Bedouins of Israel
a Conversation with Ismail Khaldi
The story of a Muslim Bedouin as a part of Israeli society, as told by Deputy Consul General Ismail Khaldi, who was born in a Bedouin village in the Galilee. Prior to his appointment as Consul in December 2006, Khaldi worked for the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs after having served in the Defense Ministry, the Israeli Police, and the Israeli Defense Forces. Born in India in 1949 and immigrated to Israel in 1973, novelist Sophie Judah will discuss her novel about everyday life within the little-known Jewish community of Bene Israel in India over the course of more than a century.
