Alternative Energy

Alternative energy is renewable energy sources, such as wind, flowing water, solar energy and biomass, which create less environmental damage and pollution than fossil fuels, and offer an alternative to nonrenewable resources.

While renewable energy is generally more expensive than conventionally produced supplies, alternative power helps to reduce pollution and to conserve fossil fuels.

At Israel in the Gardens, we’re will be doing our part by:

• Highlighting US companies focused on alternative energy
• Highlighting Israeli companies focused on alternative energy
• Hosting “Walk-a-mile” for Israel with proceeds to “Green” efforts in Israel
• Emphasizing issues and offering key figure interviews

Be part of the solution. Learn more about the public demand and benefits of alternative energy and its impact on economics and on our environment.

Weizmann Institute LogoThe Weizmann Institute of Science is working to develop alternative sources of energy that allow for a sustainable way of life for mankind that is compatible with the earth’s ecosystem.  The Institute has embarked on a long-term program to stimulate and support a broad range of basic scientific research projects in alternative and clean energy, and has the only solar research facility in the world located on an academic campus.  Studies performed at the solar facility are already producing real-world results; for example, a pilot plant has been developed that uses state-of-the-art technology to convert sunlight to electricity.  The Weizmann Institute of Science has taken a leading role in the development of practical alternative energy technologies. More...
