October 23 - Café B'Sukkah at Rhoda Goldman Plaza 2003

Members of Tzavta came to help build a Sukkah for the elderly at Rhoda Goldman Plaza and enjoyed music, refreshments and Hebrew conversation!

A fun-filled evening
The Sukah was built for residents to use throughout the Festival of Sukkot. The Israel Center staff brought food for the volunteers, some great Israeli tunes, and a chance to shmooze and mingle with RG Plaza residents!

A brief history of the RG Plaza:
The seven- story, $37 million complex, which also houses Jewish Family and Children's Services and is a joint project of JFCS and the Mount Zion Health Fund, is the only Jewish assisted-living facility in San Francisco, and was named after the late philanthropist and member of the Levi Strauss family. The facility celebrates it's third anniversary this October. The age span of residents ranges from a smattering in their 60s to a few in their late 90s. Some are quite active -- taking advantage of the exercise classes, group excursions, Shabbat services, guest lectures and other activities, while others are more restricted by physical limitations. For the latter, socializing at community meals or in the well-appointed sitting areas may be the highlight of the day. Either way, life at Rhoda Goldman offers comfort -- from housekeeping to laundry service, security and lots of engaging options. "The staff describe it as being on a cruiseship on land," Anita Friedman, JFCS executive director, says with a smile. "There's just great synergy" between the residents and JFCS, "so that everyone who needs help in the community can get it."*

Thanks to Jewish Family & Children's Services ( www.jfcs.org ) for their support of this event!

Sunday, April 25 - Food Pantry

The Israel Center and American Jewish World Service joined more than a dozen other synagogues and organizations for the Fifth Annual East Bay Rebuilding Together/Sukkot in April on Sunday, April 25, 2004.

We worked together to rehabilitate the homes of low-income people who are elderly and/or who have disabilities, as well as the office space of local non-profit agencies serving those populations.

Sukkot 2004: Tzavta donates a Sukkah for the Jewish Community Federation!

We are proud to announce that a Sukkah has been generously donated by Israel Center's Tzavta Community to the Jewish Federation! Thanks to the help of Tzavta member Ran Hofman

In the spirit of Sukkot, Tzavta is happy to provide a Sukkah for the use of theFederation staff during the holiday. It's spectacular views overlook the Bay.

Tzavta invites the staff to visit the Sukkah during lunch times and host
meetings. Last week we had a beautiful opening for the Sukkah and revived a Sukkot tradition of having a Sukkah on the federation's roof. We had a great time hanging out on the roof, listening to Israeli music, decorating the Sukkah together, and giving this special gift to the community!
